AYA good/bad production years?
I'm going to try to have a picture that shows a purpose built medium game gun (an AyA model 53) beside a purpose built heavy competition gun (a Luis Arrizabalaga Model 228, which is similar to an AyA model 56).

Numbers. AYA shotgun models are generally defined by their numbers. The AYA No 1 sidelock has always been the flagship of the range, modelled closely on the Holland & Holland design and with Purdey-type double underlugs, detachable locks, and articulated front trigger and chopper lump barrels. A good second-hand example is likely to cost upwards of £2,000.

AyA spare parts?
If I were ordering parts from AyA, I would ask for a coffee can of engraved and hardened screws to replace all the buggered ones I have seen on guns worked on by those who should not be allowed to own screwdrivers! Having said that, the "traditional kit" of any sidelock is pins and springs, to which I would add a complete set of screws for the gun!

What you have is a medium game gun, not a heavy load pigeon gun. The Proof pressure of 900Kg shows that; a pigeon gun would be Proofed at 1200Kg, and be rather heavier that 7lbs. I don't know what the pressure of those big shells is but regardless of safety (which I don't disregard, you should look into it) sidelocks can be damaged by heavy recoil.

A hard case for my new AYA #2?
I have two 16 ga SxS shotguns (non Spanish) and ordered my first custom made AYA #2 16 ga last October. I just got word that the importer will be taking shipment on the gun end of August so I want to get a few more items before my new Spanish mistress arrives Stateside.
