Reinforced concrete: Jonathan Ochshorn's Structural …

The strength, or capacity, of a reinforced concrete beam can be determined by considering the equilibrium of tensile and compressive forces at any cross section. Failure of the beam occurs either with crushing of the concrete within the compression region; or yielding of the tension steel, followed by compressive crushing of the concrete.

Torsional Strength of Reinforced Concrete Members Failing by Crushing

The torsional strength of reinforced concrete members that fail by yielding of the reinforcement can be accurately predicted by design codes such as ACI 318-19 . ... However, these codes are relatively poor at predicting the strength of heavily reinforced members that fail by crushing. This paper presents a rational model which can predict the ...

Strength Deterioration due to Bond Slip and Concrete Crushing …

An efficient model is needed, however, for the simple and accurate representation of the behavior up to failure. A macromodel that represents the behavior of reinforced concrete members that accounts for strength degradation due to bond slip and crushing of concrete is developed. The model consists of nonlinear springs connected by rigid elements.

1.10. SOLID65

The concrete material model with its cracking and crushing capabilities is discussed in Concrete (with SOLID65). This material model predicts either elastic behavior, cracking behavior or crushing behavior. If elastic behavior is predicted, the concrete is treated as a linear elastic material (discussed above).

Arresting properties of polypropylene fiber-reinforced foamed concrete

As shown in Fig. 14 (a), after 10, 20, and 30 wet-dry cycles, the initial crushing stresses of 0.6 % fiber-reinforced foamed concrete are 54.57 %, 37.82 %, and 35.50 % higher than that of foamed concrete without fiber. Simultaneously, the crushing curves further deviate from the ideality curve under wet-dry cycles.

Failure Modes in Concrete Beams: Flexural and Shear Failure

Flexural tension failure initiates by yielding of steel reinforcement followed by crushing of concrete at compression side of the beam. It occurs when the beam is under-reinforced; the reinforcement ratio in the beam is low than balanced reinforced ratio as per ACI 318-14.
