Hardinge made a nice small horizontal, the TM or UM series, and could be had with a vertical head. The UM is the same machine as the TM, but has a swivelling table for helical milling (stuff like twist drills and milling cutters flutes) There was a recent thread about a South Bend mill on the SB forum with links to a couple Ebay auctions.
